my in-box confirmed that it was really going to happen. the simmer schedule verified my absence so all I needed to do was pack but first some windsurfing even if it was raining.
driving towards blue skies
the maui winds had been blowing hard so when us33 dropped off a 3.4 blacktip I quickly absorbed it into my quiver. the 3.4 gave me power when the wind occasionally let up, creating glassy water before it exhaled letting out powerful gusts. during the gusts, I hung on using the harness techniques I learned from shawna.
I found myself negotiating with the wind and it sounded something like this, "please, can you relax long enough for me to gybe? I'm not telling you what to do but don't you want to save yourself for the summer time tourists? they really, really appreciate your every day stamina. not that I don't because without you, my life would be much less fulfilling and I'd probably live up my name 'grosso'. oh look, there's a nice swell coming, if you let up for a second I promise to go for it." sometimes the wind ignored me and sometimes it granted me my wish.

rigging on a 340 is fantastic because it's short and light. the 3.4 is fairly easy to wrestle in high winds and once it figures out that I am transitioning it is immediately neutral. it's stable in the air but if I'm lazy and land off balance the power pulls me over. I think the blacktip has secured it's place in the simmer style line-up but if you are like me and get pounded plenty, the monofilm will show wrinkles more quickly than q-ply. but if you like control with extra power it is the right choice.
ahhh, another great session.
my craving for swiss chocolate, alpenbrot bread, and romance were on my
mind as I dropped my quiver off at the shop, said good-bye and started my journey but first had to finalize my packing:
bikini (don't leave home without one) - check
sandals - check
mini skirt - check
boots - check
jacket - checkgifts (molokai salt, fresh mac nuts from the kula tree, bday gifts) - check, check and check
cable for this, cable for that (how many cables does one girl need?) - check
laptop - check
passport - check
wetsuit/harness - maybe
up, up and away...

so many options, where to begin
planes, train and a stroll along the tree lined streets confirmed that spring has arrived.
ivy facelift
today, my cravings have been fulfilled and though I'm curious about swiss cultural I'm not quite brave enough to slather murmeltier-fett creme on my body. eweee, that's just nasty.
even though I am far away, maui watches over me as I sleep and warms me each day upon waking. today, more adventure but soon I'll be back on the water working on my summer time tan, tacks, and trying to catch south swell.
windorwithout expanded...

Spring fling, eh? Enjoy!!
